Born and raised in Malawi, Mercy Sekani is passionate about financial inclusion and spearheading financial growth in small and upcoming businesses. She Joins GrowthAfrica as a project catalyst under the Public-Private Partnership Commission “Incubate Malawi” digital skills project.
In recognition of the promising benefits enabled by ICTs and digital technologies, the Government of Malawi is implementing the Digital Malawi Programme in partnership with the World Bank Group to support a comprehensive, long-term investment in Malawi’s digital transformation.
The programme seeks to leverage digital technologies to drive economic growth, innovation and job creation, access to services, information, and markets, and to increase government efficiency and transparency.
Mercy has close to a decade of experience in the Malawi financial sector having worked with various banks in different roles in the retail banking sector with a special focus on SMEs. She has been involved in the development of a vibrant SME portfolio with a focus on risk assessment, provision of appropriate investment, and financing structures to the SMEs.
Before Joining GrowthAfrica, Mercy worked with Ecobank for 5 years as a Relationship Manager for SMEs portfolio of over 2000 businesses in various sectors of which over 50% were agriculturally based and working together with development partners such as Global Communities in risk sharing when it comes to financing structures.
Mercy was later promoted to the post of Branch Manager to lead a domestic branch and deliver exceptional business performance through the provision of excellent sales and service management, influential leadership, and team development. She was once Ecobank employee of the year for her outstanding business performance in the year 2018.
Mercy is geared to spearhead growth in start-ups / SMEs through digital skills incorporation in businesses, capacity building and development of meaningful partnership for easy access to finance at GrowthAfrica.
