ACCELERATOR vs. INCUBATOR vs. INNOVATION / TECH / ENTREPRENEURSHIP HUB vs. CO-WORKING SPACE
We took our time but have finally updated the terminology sheet we posted a few months ago. Added to it is “Innovation/tech/entrepreneurship hub” to get the (almost) full picture. There are plenty of hybrid hubs running incubation “projects” or incubators testing the grounds for acceleration “projects.
We believe that the difference between for example a hub running an incubation project and an incubator is whether there is a dedicated and ongoing offering. The incubator would continuously deliver its incubation programme whereas the hub typically will do one-off incubation projects often depending on funding. Dedication and specialisation regardless of where in the value chain you sit is becoming increasingly vital as our ecosystems are evolving and maturing. This will require collaboration and focus on what we are best at.
What are your inputs and thoughts on these terminologies?
We are looking forward to your insights and feedback to improve this resource – and hopefully improve how we all communicate the differences between different ecosystem players and the important role they respectively play in the “entrepreneurial value chain”. The ambition is not to reach a consensus but to spark dialogue and possibly enhance our understanding as peers.
Reach out to us with insights and reflections to collaborate in building a shared ecosystem resource.
